Research has consistently demonstrated that homebirth with a trained midwife is a very safe option for low risk women. I also work hard to communicate well with medical professionals in the hospital so that when we need to transport to them, clients can receive quality, safe, and respectful care.
"Women who planned to give birth at home were less likely to experience obstetrical interventions, including caesarean section, operative vaginal birth, epidural analgesia, episiotomy, and oxytocin augmentation. They were also less likely to suffer 3rd or 4th degree perineal tear, maternal infection or postpartum hemorrhage. This held true among the subgroup of women giving birth for the first time....where no difference was found between groups (Lancet Study, April 5, 2020). "
Absolutely! This is your birth and you get to choose who you want to be present. Throughout your care, we will talk about who you would like at your birth and how we can best work together to create the best birthing environment for you. We encourage you to bring any older children to at least one prenatal visit so they can get familiar with me and we can include them in your prenatal care. We also have books and videos to help you teach them what to expect at the birth should you choose for them to be there.
Yes! You do not need very much space at all for your baby to be born. Your baby will be born safely in the place where YOU feel the most comfortable and I promise they will not care if it is big or small. We are happy to assist you in the birth of your baby wherever that place may be and we don't need a lot of space to make that happen!
We can almost guarantee you that home birth is much less messy than what you’re picturing in your head! Midwives are pros at protecting your space. When it’s all said and done and we tuck you into bed with your new baby, you will usually not be able to tell that a birth took place in your home. We will clean it all up and start your laundry for you. While we can't make promises, we take protecting your home seriously while caring for you at your birth.
Though we do our best to avoid emergent situations by thorough and continuous risk assessment, there is always the potential for unforeseen emergencies to arise. Prenatally, we will put an emergency transport plan together so that you will know exactly what to expect. If transport to the hospital is necessary in labor, a member of our team will call EMS while you're being cared for. Your medical records will be sent to the hospital so that they have a full picture of your care up to that point as well as whatever complication has come up so they can be prepared to address your needs when you arrive. Upon arrival, I will give a full report to the receiving doctor who will take over your care. We will remain a support to you once you have transferred to the hospital in whatever capacity you need or want.
I would love to hear them from you! Call, email, or schedule a consultation so that we can discuss them in person!
